Step-by-step instructions

  1. Choose one unlocked PDF.
  2. Select pages, render quality and one or two different languages.
  3. Create the searchable PDF. Language models load from Helphonic while your document stays local.
  4. Download and check both the visible pages and searchable text in a PDF reader.

Appearance and searchable text

Only selected pages are exported, in the requested order. Each page is rendered as a PNG image, preserving the displayed rotation and page dimensions, and a Tesseract Unicode text layer is added above it. This is a real searchable PDF, not a text file or image-only PDF.

Original forms, annotations, attachments, links, metadata and existing text layers are not retained. The visible output is rasterized; it is not a lossless PDF rewrite. Existing source rotation is respected, but sideways text within a scan is not automatically corrected.

Languages and recognition quality

Choose from the 30 installed OCR models, with at most two languages per operation. Select languages matching the page. Models target upright, horizontally laid-out printed text. Handwriting, vertical text, complex tables and damaged scans can produce incorrect text.

Search and copying use recognized text, which may differ from what you see. Review important names and numbers. Blank pages can remain in a mixed document, but an operation with no recognized text is rejected.

Device limits

Render quality is 150, 200 or 300 DPI, automatically reduced to six million pixels and 6,000 pixels per side. The combined rendered size is limited to 30 million pixels. Select fewer pages if needed.

At most ten selected pages are recognized. The current source-page limit also applies. Processing stops after six minutes, and a single OCR request is limited to three minutes. Cancel terminates the OCR worker and PDF renderer. Output is limited to 60 MB.

Processing and privacy

Files and entered content are processed on your device in this browser tab. File contents and results are not uploaded to Helphonic or sent to analytics. The page still contacts Helphonic to load its tools, check access and confirm non-content usage information. Work is not saved to your account; download or copy results before leaving or reloading the page.

Access and current limits

Check the tool page for current access, remaining usage and per-operation limits. File count, per-file size, total size and page limits can depend on your access and can change. Device and processor safety limits still apply when usage is unlimited. A paid pass does not necessarily increase every processing limit.

One successful export counts as one operation. Previewing and editing do not use an operation. Daily allowances reset at 00:00 UTC. Downloads of an already-created result do not count again.

If an operation cannot finish

Use a current browser and smaller inputs if the tab runs out of memory. Some tools download a local processing library or model on first use, so an internet connection is needed even though your content stays on the device.

If the tool reports that access or limits changed, review the current policy and run it again. If usage confirmation is uncertain after an interrupted connection, a retry can count as another operation. Download completed work before reloading; this site does not keep a recovery copy.

Check the current limits

Allowances and per-operation limits can change. The Scanned PDF to Searchable PDF page shows the policy that applies to you. Per-operation safety limits still apply when usage is unlimited. See access passes if a tool or extra usage requires paid access.
