Image to Text (OCR)

Extract editable text from images in your browser with 30 OCR languages. Select up to two languages, then copy or download the text.

Unlimited Free Usage

Choose the main language in your image. Add a second language for mixed text, such as Arabic and English. One language is usually faster. These native menus support keyboard selection and typing a language name.

Choose JPG, PNG or WebP images with clear, upright printed text. Each image produces a TXT file. Check the result for recognition mistakes, especially handwriting and complex layouts. Images are processed one at a time and large images are reduced to 6 megapixels for OCR.

The first run loads the OCR engine and selected language files from Helphonic. Your images and recognized text stay in this browser tab.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded?

No. This tool processes files and entered content locally in your browser. Helphonic serves the page, scripts and any recognition models, and checks access settings. File contents, extracted text, captions, metadata values and barcode values are not sent to Helphonic or analytics.

How does usage work?

See the current access policy above. These tools launch with unlimited free usage for all audiences. If an administrator configures an allowance later, one successful export counts as one operation, including its multiple files or download formats. Per-operation device safety limits still apply.

Why are there file limits?

Processing uses your device memory and CPU. Safety limits help prevent tab crashes, especially on phones. Work is not saved to your account; download the result before leaving the page.

How to use

Image to Text (OCR)

Recognize printed text in JPG, PNG or WebP images, review it in the browser and copy or download editable TXT files.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Choose clear, upright JPG, PNG or WebP images containing the text you want to recognize.
  2. Choose the primary text language. Add an optional second language only when both are present in the images.
  3. Run Image to Text and wait for the OCR engine and selected language files to load. Images are recognized one at a time.
  4. Choose a result file in the editor, review the recognized text and correct mistakes.
  5. Use Copy text or Download edited TXT to keep your corrected result. Repeat for the other result files before leaving the page.
Supported images and text output

The input formats are JPG/JPEG, PNG and WebP. Each image produces a separate UTF-8 TXT file. The result editor lets you switch between files, edit their text, copy it and download an edited copy.

OCR recognizes the visible text in an image; it does not translate it or recreate a Word document. Handwriting, decorative fonts, low contrast, tables, multiple columns and complex layouts may produce mistakes or unexpected reading order.

Choosing languages

Choose one primary language and optionally one different secondary language, for a maximum of two. English is selected initially. Using only the languages actually present can reduce model loading and improve recognition focus.

Supported languages are English, Bangla, Hindi, Arabic, Urdu, Persian, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Turkish, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi (Gurmukhi), Nepali, Thai, Dutch, Polish, Ukrainian and Malay.

The engine and selected language files load from Helphonic when needed. Initial loading can take longer than later steps, and the two-language option loads more data. Keep the tab open during processing.

Getting better recognition

Source images are limited to 16 megapixels. Larger accepted images are reduced to at most 6 megapixels and 8000 pixels per side for OCR. These safety limits are separate from the current file-count and upload-size limits shown for the tool.

Text output is bounded by a per-file character limit and a 16 MB combined text limit. Process fewer images if the result is too large. Recognition speed depends on your device.

If no text is found, check the language and try a sharper, brighter, upright image. Crop away large unused borders and divide a complex page into simpler images. If loading or recognition fails, retry with a smaller image and one language in a recent browser.

For scanned PDFs, export pages with PDF to JPG / PNG first, then recognize the images here. For PDFs with selectable text, PDF to Text can extract that text directly without OCR. Always proofread names, numbers and important passages.

Processing and privacy

Files and entered content are processed on your device in this browser tab. File contents and results are not uploaded to Helphonic or sent to analytics. The page still contacts Helphonic to load its tools, check access and confirm non-content usage information. Work is not saved to your account; download or copy results before leaving or reloading the page.

About this tool

Choose clear JPG, PNG or WebP images and one or two of 30 recognition languages. Recognition runs locally; only your selected language models are downloaded when needed. Accuracy depends on image clarity, language and layout. Review the editable result before copying it or downloading UTF-8 text. Source images are limited to 16 megapixels each and the OCR working image to 6 megapixels.
