Step-by-step instructions

  1. Choose the barcode format required by your scanner or receiving system.
  2. Enter Barcode content using the character and length rules shown for that format.
  3. Set bar width and height, choose whether to show readable content and select the export format.
  4. Check the preview, run Barcode Generator and download the result.
  5. Test a printed or displayed copy with the intended scanner before using it in your workflow.

Content rules by format

  • Code 128 accepts printable English characters, up to 80 characters.
  • Code 39 accepts uppercase letters, digits, spaces and the symbols - . $ / + %.
  • EAN-13 accepts 12 digits and adds the check digit, or 13 digits with a valid check digit.
  • EAN-8 accepts 7 digits and adds the check digit, or 8 digits with a valid check digit.
  • UPC-A accepts 11 digits and adds the check digit, or 12 digits with a valid check digit.
  • ITF requires an even number of digits, with at least two digits.

Appearance and export

Bar width ranges from 1 to 4 pixels and height from 30 to 300 pixels. Black bars, a white background and quiet margins are included. The readable-content option places the value beneath the bars.

SVG is a vector format that can scale cleanly in compatible applications. PNG is a raster image. Both exports represent the same one-dimensional barcode. Use QR Code Generator for QR codes or richer content such as URLs and contacts.

Limits and troubleshooting

One barcode is generated per operation. Enter between 1 and 80 characters and follow the stricter rules of the chosen format. A full EAN or UPC value with an incorrect check digit is rejected; entering the value without its final digit lets the tool calculate it.

If a scanner cannot read the result, verify its supported barcode formats, preserve the white margins and avoid shrinking or distorting the bars. Test at the intended physical size.

The tool draws barcode images. It does not assign, register or verify ownership of retail product identifiers. Use a valid identifier appropriate to the system where the barcode will be used.

Processing and privacy

Files and entered content are processed on your device in this browser tab. File contents and results are not uploaded to Helphonic or sent to analytics. The page still contacts Helphonic to load its tools, check access and confirm non-content usage information. Work is not saved to your account; download or copy results before leaving or reloading the page.

Access and current limits

Check the tool page for current access, remaining usage and per-operation limits. File count, per-file size, total size and page limits can depend on your access and can change. Device and processor safety limits still apply when usage is unlimited. A paid pass does not necessarily increase every processing limit.

One successful export counts as one operation, including its multiple files or pages. Changing options and local previews do not use an operation. Current access checks must complete before the tool can release the result.

Check the current limits

Allowances and per-operation limits can change. The Barcode Generator page shows the policy that applies to you. Per-operation safety limits still apply when usage is unlimited. See access passes if a tool or extra usage requires paid access.
