Video Frame Extractor

Extract a frame at one timestamp or a series at regular intervals, with JPG/PNG export and an optional contact sheet.

Unlimited Free Usage

Choose an MP4, WebM, MOV or Ogg video supported by your browser. Preview the source below, then set timestamps in seconds. Videos must be at most 120 seconds, 20 MB and 3840 pixels per side (8.3 megapixels).

Extract up to 60 frames and 24 million combined output pixels. Timestamps use browser seeking and are approximate for variable-frame-rate videos. Multiple frames and the contact sheet are packaged in a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded?

No. Source files, filenames, previews and output stay on your device. Helphonic serves the page and local processing libraries and checks access using non-content usage metadata.

Is this tool free?

This tool starts with unlimited free operations for guests, registered users and active paid users. Administrators can configure allowances later. Current access details appear on the page, and device safety limits still apply.

Will this work on every browser?

Use a current browser with JavaScript, canvas and worker support. HEIC conversion and GIF editing also need WebAssembly and enough memory for a local decoder. Video codec support varies by browser; smaller files work better on phones.

What limits apply?

Source: up to 20 MB, 120 seconds, 3840 px per side and 8.3 MP. Export: 60 frames, 1600 px per side and 24 million combined frame pixels.

How to use

Video Frame Extractor

Learn how to use Video Frame Extractor: step-by-step instructions, settings, export options, privacy, limits and troubleshooting.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Choose a supported video and inspect its duration in the preview.
  2. Select Single timestamp or Regular intervals.
  3. Enter the timestamp, or start, end and interval in seconds.
  4. Choose JPG or PNG, output size and whether to include a contact sheet.
  5. Click Extract video frames, then download the image or ZIP.
Timestamp and interval behavior

Single mode extracts one frame at a timestamp before the end of the video. Interval mode includes the start time and excludes the end time. Up to 60 frames can be extracted, and their filenames contain the sequence number and requested timestamp.

Browser seeking is approximate for some codecs and variable-frame-rate files. This tool is useful for visual frame extraction rather than forensic frame-accurate indexing. It does not extract audio.

Image and contact-sheet output

Frames retain the source aspect ratio and are reduced to the chosen maximum side, never enlarged. JPEG quality controls lossy compression; PNG is lossless relative to the decoded frame. Source video metadata is not copied.

Multiple images are packaged in a ZIP. The optional PNG contact sheet contains smaller, numbered thumbnails with timestamps. Current browser codec support, compressed-file limits and decoded/output pixel limits all apply.

Processing and privacy

Files and entered content are processed on your device in this browser tab. File contents and results are not uploaded to Helphonic or sent to analytics. The page still contacts Helphonic to load its tools, check access and confirm non-content usage information. Work is not saved to your account; download or copy results before leaving or reloading the page.

If an operation cannot finish

Use a current browser and smaller inputs if the tab runs out of memory. Some tools download a local processing library or model on first use, so an internet connection is needed even though your content stays on the device.

If the tool reports that access or limits changed, review the current policy and run it again. If usage confirmation is uncertain after an interrupted connection, a retry can count as another operation. Download completed work before reloading; this site does not keep a recovery copy.

About this tool

Choose a browser-supported video, select a single timestamp or an interval range, set image size and format, and export frames locally. An optional numbered contact sheet makes a sequence easier to review.
