File Checksum Verifier

Calculate SHA-256 or SHA-512 file checksums on your device. Compare an expected digest and export exact hashes as TXT or JSON.

Unlimited Free Usage

Optionally paste an expected checksum beside each file. Surrounding whitespace is ignored; internal whitespace is rejected. A match does not prove that a file is safe.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files or results uploaded?

No. Files, file names, camera frames, decoded text and checksums stay in your browser. Only access checks and non-content usage metadata go to Helphonic. Processing libraries are served from this site.

Is this tool free?

Unlimited free usage is available initially to guests, registered users and active paid users. Administrators can change allowances later. Current access information appears on this page; file and device safety limits still apply.

How to use

File Checksum Verifier

Learn how to use File Checksum Verifier: step-by-step instructions, settings, export options, privacy, limits and troubleshooting.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Choose one or more files and select SHA-256 or SHA-512.
  2. Optionally paste the expected checksum beside each file.
  3. Calculate checksums, review Match, Mismatch or Not provided, then download TXT or JSON.
Formats and important details

SHA-256 produces 64 hexadecimal characters; SHA-512 produces 128. Uppercase expected digests are accepted. Surrounding whitespace is trimmed, while internal spaces, separators, algorithm prefixes and malformed lengths are rejected.

A matching checksum confirms that the calculated digest equals the expected value. It does not establish who supplied the file or prove the file is safe. Obtain expected values from a trusted source.

Native browser Web Crypto runs inside a local worker. Each operation reads at most one 20 MB file into its hashing buffer. Cancel terminates the active worker. HTTPS and a current browser are required. Reports preserve full lowercase digests and original file names as text.

Privacy and downloads

All processing happens on this device. Successful results become available after the normal access confirmation. Keep the page open until processing finishes and save your downloads before leaving.

Processing and privacy

Files and entered content are processed on your device in this browser tab. File contents and results are not uploaded to Helphonic or sent to analytics. The page still contacts Helphonic to load its tools, check access and confirm non-content usage information. Work is not saved to your account; download or copy results before leaving or reloading the page.

If an operation cannot finish

Use a current browser and smaller inputs if the tab runs out of memory. Some tools download a local processing library or model on first use, so an internet connection is needed even though your content stays on the device.

If the tool reports that access or limits changed, review the current policy and run it again. If usage confirmation is uncertain after an interrupted connection, a retry can count as another operation. Download completed work before reloading; this site does not keep a recovery copy.

About this tool

Choose files and SHA-256 or SHA-512. Optionally enter an expected hexadecimal digest for each file. Compare calculated values, then download plain-text and JSON reports. File names and contents stay on your device.
