How to use

Compress Image

Re-encode a JPG, PNG or WebP image with an adjustable quality setting and download a copy in the same format.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Choose one JPG, PNG or WebP image that fits the current upload limits.
  2. Adjust the Quality slider. Start with the default setting, then lower it if a smaller JPG or WebP is more important than fine detail.
  3. Run Compress Image and save the downloaded file.
  4. Compare the result with your original at full size and check both file sizes before deciding which copy to use.
Supported files and result

The input is one JPG/JPEG, PNG or WebP file. The result keeps that file format and its pixel dimensions, allowing for automatic correction of supported JPEG rotation metadata.

This tool changes encoding rather than image dimensions. Use Resize Image when you also need fewer pixels, or Convert Image to change the file type.

Choosing quality

The Quality control runs from 40 to 95. For JPG and WebP, lower settings generally reduce file size at the cost of detail. Look closely at small text, faces, gradients and sharp edges.

PNG uses lossless compression. Its setting changes compression effort rather than applying the same visual-quality tradeoff as JPG. A PNG can stay similar in size or become larger after re-encoding.

Troubleshooting

A smaller result is not guaranteed, especially when the original is already optimized. The tool does not target an exact file size in KB or MB.

If dimensions or memory are too large, make a smaller source copy and try again. File size alone does not describe how much memory an image needs. Invalid or unsupported images should be re-saved as a supported static format.

Processing and privacy

The selected files are uploaded to Helphonic for processing in private storage. No third-party file-processing service is used. Temporary source and output files are removed after the download response, and failed processing cleans up temporary files. Keep your originals and save the result to your device.

About this tool

Choose one image, set the quality, and download a smaller copy. The original and result are removed from private server storage immediately after the download response.
